How long and thick is dust ?

I was lying in bed the other morning , with the sun streaming through the window, highlighting the dust in the air and was wondering how big the actual dust particles are.

Quite often in technology programs the phrase "xxx manytimes thinner than the human hair..." is used, basically to say that it is so small you can even think about seeing it, but dust particles must be miro meters in size and we can see them.

I am thinking along the lines of dust particles are probably the smallest thing we can see, and was wondering how big that is.

Cheers

How long and thick is dust ?

%26lt;%26gt;"The size of dust particles varies from about half a micrometer (0.00002 in) to several times this size."

Since that is too small for the human eye to see, what you are seeing is actually a chain or conglomerate of dust particles.

How long and thick is dust ?

less than 500 micrometers
