She is an australain shepard about 11 years old (in human years not dog) shes taking deramaxx and M-Thyrozine, I looked up side effects of them online but didnt see anything about hair growth. Shes been taking them for atleast 2 years. My mom gets her hair cut about twice a year cause she sheds soo much hair in the house. She never had this problem before but since she last had her hair cut its been growing back strange. She has spots were its not growing and spots where its growing long but somewhat thin. This is only on her back and part of her side, on the rest of her body is growing back like normal. My mom thought it might be from her laying on concrete in her office but wouldnt make sense cause she doesnt lay on her back.

Have you had her checked out by the vet? Sounds like fungus or something that she could have picked up at the groomer...

Ask her vet. if she can take Omega 3 Fish Oil Vitamins!! If you poke a hole at the end of the vitamin, and poor the liquid on something she really likes to eat, she will love it!! It will help her skin and coat in a couple of weeks!! I did this because my adopted dog had heart worms when I adopted him, and the vet. told me to give this to him for his heart health, and it made his skin and coat so shiny and healthy, it was almost unbelievable!! I have a Keeshond that had the same problem. It seems that the older they get the more the hair resists growing normal. I had her recut down to even everything out and then gave her a tespoon of Brewer's yeast every other morning in her food and also applied a very small amount of tea tree oil to her skin once a week. In about a month her hair all grew back normal-thick and full as when she was a pup. I also spent a lot of time brushing it to encourage it to grow back. My Kee is 9 1/2 years old so pretty close to your dog's age and they are pretty close to having the same hair length and coat type. To handle some of the shedding issues try taking a carding comb-or a #40 clipping blade which are fairly inexpensive-and brush with that every 2 weeks in small areas at a time. You will be amazed at how much hair you get from just doing that-that can be done on any hair type and length. If you can't do it because of time or she won't sit still long enough most groom shops will do it for a small fee....it's called carding. Good luck and I hope this helps:%26gt;)

That being said, let's get down to what's going on with hair growth on your dog. Normally you shave a dog then the hair grows back full %26amp; even. Then one time you shave it and it doesn't. This is a clue. A clue that your dog is not dealing with what ails it. Either the body is compensating by putting its energy into some other organ or illness (energy goes toward healing not fur growth), or your dog is becoming less able to tolerate its conditions (stressed). Your dog is on pain medication. For what? Arthritis? Your dog also has a Thyroid problem. These are the two already known conditions. Either those two things have become worse (maybe the dog is in more pain or thyroid med is off) or something else needs treated now. Basically the lack of fur growth happens in three situations: the dog is old, the dog is sick, or the dog has whelped recently.

Get some Salmon oil from an all natural store this will help her coat, and when you take her to the groomers, bring your own shampoo she may be allergic to the stuff they are using on her. She may also have hot spots but that normally includes itching.

On the Salmon oil call the vet to assure she can have it, and it wont interfere with anything shes on right now.

For shamppoo i would reccomend an all natural one. Myabe an oatmeal one, as thats good for her skin, and her coat.
