Cats and Dirt?

My cats seem to bother one plant in my house. They don't chew the leaves. They just play in the dirt. I come home every day and clean up dirt from this plant. I am getting very tired of it. Have used the "greens" for them, and that didn't stop them. I hear the other day that human hair may work, but I thought that was just for keeping deer out of gardens. I need help because this is making me crazy on a daily basis.

My male cat used to prefer one of my plants--we covered it with rocks. He couldn't use it as a potty any more.

I'm betting you have TONS of toys for them to play with right?! LOL, gotta love the curious nature of cats.

Have you tried any boundary sprays? There are several on the market that you can spray around the pot. They are smell deterents. I would give that a try if you haven't already.

Using rocks in the pot will solve the problem. But you must fit the rocks in closely and glue them together and to the side of the pot.

I bought a plant that already had rocks put in this way but I knocked it down and the rocks broke apart. Once my cats discovered this they would sit there and remove the rocks one at a time and then play in the dirt whenever they got bored. So I glued them back together and the problem was solved.

Hope this helps.

well depending on how small your plant is maybe you could surrounded by chicken wire and keep the plant in it or move it to a room the cat does not get into. one of my cats always did this so I kept the plant in my bedroom and kept the door closed and now I have moved all my plants into a small unused bedroom and keep the door closed and no more problems

Hang the plants from the ceiling, it'll keep them from playing in the dirt.
