What are dangers, disadvantages, and advantages to biological modification of genes to change a huma

There has been discussion in the scientific world of being able to change the characteristics and traits of humans. Talk of being able to make us see infrared or echo-locate by taking genes from certain other organisms is very interesting. Also interesting is the prospect of parents being able to pick and choose the characteristics of their offspring (e.g. blond hair, musically talented, tall...).

What are some advantages and disadvantages to that? How would it change society?

Give references to the movie GATTACA if possible.

Answer this question in 20 minutes and I'll give you best answer ASAP.

At present, such talk is mere speculation.

We simply don't know enough yet.

When we do, we will take over control of the

evolution of the species.

Those who would try to regulate against this

are just 'shoveling against the tide`.

As to the movie - it's fantasy, enjoy it as such.

Society should just let nature take its course.

Why would you want to pick your childs hair or eye color? Each of us are unique and interesting why go and change that.

What are dangers, disadvantages, and advantages to biological modification of genes to change a human?

Dangers: Anything new they try will involve trial and error.

Gattaca: Those whom cannot afford changes become left behind.

Advantages: No aging, superior senses, intelligence, body composition, etc...

Disadvantages: Being poor and being left behind (the rich become smarter, get better jobs, become richer)

Another industry: Instead of tattoo and piercing parlors, you could go to a genetic parlor for antlers or tails or leopard spots.
